The Future
Posted on 05/04/2019
After the tour is before the tour, and the last one has been too long ago. It's been more than 7 months now that I came home from Belluno in 2018, and my feet are itching to get back onto another trail. Of course there's already a plan. This year, I'm going to walk parts of the Salzburg Triest tour, starting in the mid of June and hoping that snow levels on the high altitude passes have melted...
From Munich to Venice on the Dream Path
Posted on 07/13/2017
The first entries on this blog are belated additions -a recollection of my MuVe adventure in 2017. In case you haven't encountered the word "MuVe" yet, it is a shortening of Munich-Venice. The whole hike - known as "Dream Path" - runs up and down over a distance of more than 500km and 25,000 height meters, from the Marienplatz in central Munich to the Piazza de San Marco in Venice. The route was...
Day 6 - Hinterriss to Karwendelhaus
Posted on 08/09/2017
We start after a hearty breakfast. That's the one good thing about staying in restaurants. I fill my water bottles from the tap behind the counter and start walking. There's bad weather ahead once more, but I hope to make it to my destination before it can get ugly. I fear that the first real highlight, crossing the Birkkarspitze, with more than 2700 meters the highest mountain in the Karwendel...
Day 5 - Jachenau to Hinterriss
Posted on 08/08/2017
It's another short day today. At breakfast I learn that I'm not the only one who divided their day trip into two. With me at the breakfast table is Monika, and she's also heading to Venice. We talk a bit about this and that regarding our trips after the landlady serves us our not so opulent meal. Well, the jam is good and there's coffee with caffeine, that's still nine out of ten. I head out a...
Day 4 - Tutzinger Hut to Jachenau
Posted on 08/07/2017
A last glimpse back down towards the Tutzinger hut.The weather is as perfect as forecast, and the cool breeze from the woods keeps the heat streaming towards the mounts from the lower regions in check. After a hearty breakfast and lots of coffee - I love huts where coffee isn't rationed like gold nuggets - I start alone, but I pass others and others pass me every so often. My blisters keep nagging...
Day 3 - Lenggries to Tutzinger Hut
Posted on 08/06/2017
It not only rained tonight, it poured buckets, but around 7 the rain turns into a trickle. I hurry with breakfast, pack my stuff and head off towards the Brauneck summit cable car. Just before the last few meters the clouds drop down again and I barely make it into my rain clothes in time. The church planned a mountain mass today, but I'm almost alone in the cable station, only the priest and two...
